South Africa down hosts Morocco to lift first WAFCON trophy

South Africa’s women’s national football team, Bayana Bayana, defeated hosts, Morocco to lift the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations trophy.
Desiree Ellis lifted the trophy for the very first time on Saturday after beating Reynald Pedros’ side 2-1 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Hildah Magaia swung the title in Bayana Bayana’s favour by netting a second-half brace (63′, 71′) however, Rosella Ayane’s 80’th minute consolation was not enough to summon a comeback by The Atlas Lionesses in front of their home fans.
Despite defeating the previous winners, the Super Falcons of Nigeria, in penalty shootouts, the hosts were bested by the South Africans.
