The newly installed Soun of Ogbomoso, Ghandi Laoye, a former pastor at the Redeemed Christian Church of God has sparked reactions from netizens following the announcement of the seven days spiritual rites he must undergo. 

Ghandi Laoye based in the United States was installed as the new Soun of Ogbomoso in Oyo State on Friday.

This move follows the vacancy in the Soun of Ogbomoso stool, left by the passing of Oba Jimoh Oyewumi on December 12, 2021.

Traditionally, the new monarch will undergo a seven-day seclusion period, after which he will receive the staff of office from the state government. 

Laoye’s decision to step down as a pastor and hand over his pastoral responsibilities to Pastor Olumide Ogunjuyigbe was in accordance with the instruction of the RCCG General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.

The installation process was initiated by the Ogbomoso kingmakers, who began performing the traditional rites on Prince Afolabi Olaoye to officially install him as the new Soun of Ogbomoso. 

However, this news did not go well for some netizens due to Laoye’s previous religious status as a pastor to be involved in traditional practices.
