Dr Nonye Soludo, the wife of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has opened the doors of the new Government House and Solution Fun City to orphaned children across the state.
On Tuesday, she took the children on a special tour of the newly-built facilities, including the Governor’s Lodge and the Fun City—two key projects completed under her husband’s administration. These projects were officially commissioned on May 8, 2025, by President Bola Tinubu during his visit to Anambra State.
Mrs Soludo said the aim of the tour was to make the children feel loved and included.
“They are Anambra children too and deserve the same fun and leisure as their peers in their parents’ homes,” she said while playing and interacting with the children during the tour.
She added that the tour will not be a one-time event.
“Today, I took my children from the orphanage homes to see what is happening in their state. Because of how they are, they do not always have this kind of opportunity,” she said. “My greatest happiness is that they are happy.”
She promised to bring them back again when the Fun City fully opens to the public.
“All we are doing as a government is for the interest of the children. I cannot wait for the place to be officially opened so that I can take them to enjoy all the facilities there,” she added.
Mrs Soludo also responded to criticism over the government’s decision to build a fun city. She said it was part of Governor Soludo’s vision to make Anambra a place where people can live, work, and enjoy life.
“We want to make Anambra a destination and not a departure lounge,” she explained. “Do you know that people travel from Nigeria to other countries just to enjoy facilities like this and have fun with their children and families? Now, we have this kind of thing in Anambra. It is a major plus to us.”
One of the children, Chinwendu Madueke, thanked the First Lady for showing them love.
“Since I came of age, this is the most joyous experience for me, and I am happy I shared it with Her Excellency,” he said. “I will always remember this day because it felt like motherly care.”
Another child, Benita from Awka, said, “I had so much fun and I will have a lot to tell my friends when school resumes next week.”
