Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has given ₦1 million each to 39 wounded soldiers who are part of the South-East security operation known as Operation Udoka.

Governor Soludo made the announcement during a special Sallah lunch on Saturday, held at the 302 Artillery Regiment in Onitsha. The event was organised by the Joint Taskforce Commander, Major General Oluyemi Olatoye, to honour troops fighting insecurity in the South-East.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Olufemi Oluyede, was represented by Major General Adewale Adekeye at the gathering, which brought together army officers, police, DSS, civil defence, and other security agencies.

Soludo praised the soldiers for their bravery and efforts in making Anambra and other South-East states safer.

“Today, we are here for a special Sallah lunch with our soldiers in Onitsha Barracks,” he said. “I deeply thank you for your hard work in keeping our communities safe. The success of Operation Udoka in Anambra and beyond is truly impressive.”

The governor said the monetary support was a small way to show appreciation for their sacrifices. He added that the wounded officers would also receive free treatment at government hospitals in the state.

“We assure the wounded soldiers that each of them will receive ₦1 million,” Soludo said. “They will also get proper medical care at our hospitals for the role they play in securing our land. The criminals are feeling the heat. Our soldiers are making a difference every day.”

He added, “Thanks to your gallant work, these criminal groups are now on the run. We believe their days are numbered.”

Major General Olatoye, in his welcome address, said the event was not just to celebrate Sallah, but to show unity and honour the officers’ dedication to protecting Nigeria.

“This is a time to reflect on our duty and stand together not just as soldiers, but as one family defending this nation,” he said.

He also praised the officers for their professionalism and courage. “Your efforts speak louder than words. Even when no one sees what you go through, know that your sacrifices are deeply respected.”

In his message, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt-General Oluyede, said the soldiers’ commitment showed the true spirit of the Nigerian Army.

Represented by Major General Adekeye, he said, “You continue to work day and night to maintain peace and order. The Army appreciates your dedication and will continue to support your welfare.”

He also mentioned the success of a recent operation where troops seized a truck loaded with over 6,600 arms and ammunition, calling it “a big achievement in the fight against insecurity.”

The event ended with words of encouragement and appreciation for the troops, as Governor Soludo promised continued support and stronger cooperation between the state and the armed forces.
