Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced that traffic fines in the state will now be capped at N10,000, regardless of the offence.

The governor made this known during an endorsement rally and town hall meeting organised by transport stakeholders in Onitsha on Tuesday.

Soludo said the new policy, which takes effect from October 14, aims to reduce the financial pressure on motorists and ensure fairness in traffic management.

He explained that the move reflects his administration’s commitment to people-focused governance and acknowledges the current economic hardship.

“The policy is designed to ease the economic strain on our people, especially at a time when many are struggling with rising costs,” he said.

Soludo also revealed plans to create a special task force to tackle illegal tax collectors and ensure all payments are properly remitted to government accounts.

He said the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency would soon intensify efforts to designate and mark official bus stops for better organisation and road safety.

“We are partners in progress. While you give your best, you are also among the biggest beneficiaries of this administration. No government has constructed or repaired as many kilometres of roads in less than four years as we have,” Soludo added.

Commissioner for Transportation, Patricia Igwebuike, praised the governor’s inclusive reforms and alignment with maritime, aviation, and blue economy developments.

Chike Obiakor of the Transport Company of Anambra State also lauded Soludo’s efforts, especially the elimination of touting and the digitisation of tax payments.

He announced that transport stakeholders in the state had endorsed Soludo for a second term, pledging their full support for his re-election in the November 8 governorship election.
