Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have arrested a serving soldier and a police officer over their alleged involvement in smuggling arms and logistics to Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists in the North East.

A reliable source at the Army Headquarters, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), confirmed that the suspects were apprehended between September 26 and 28 during intelligence-led operations.

According to the source, the arrests followed the interception of military-grade ammunition along a known terror supply route in Borno State on September 26.

The discovery triggered a surveillance operation, which culminated in a sting operation on September 27, during which the suspects were caught in possession of rifles, ammunition, and communication devices.

The source added that preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to a wider logistics and arms supply network, which is currently under close monitoring by security agencies.

“The duo are in military custody for interrogation and will face disciplinary measures before being handed over for prosecution,” the source disclosed.

He noted that the arrests represent a significant step toward dismantling insider collaboration and disrupting terrorist logistics operations. He further emphasized the army’s commitment to rooting out rogue elements within its ranks and maintaining public trust in counter-terrorism efforts.

In a related development, troops also arrested a suspected Boko Haram collaborator in the Baga area of Borno State. Additionally, three motorcycles carrying 32 jerry cans of petrol were intercepted by troops at Kasuwan Dere, Mubi South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

In the North West, the source said troops of the 17 Brigade arrested a suspected logistics supplier and an informant in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State. Preliminary findings reportedly linked the suspects to an arms dealer connected to a known operative identified as “Babaru.”

“Another suspect escaped after scaling a fence as troops closed in, while several kidnap victims were rescued in other theatres,” the source added.
