Social media fuels infidelity in modern relationships – Actress Arike Gold

Nollywood actress, Arike Gold, has expressed concern over what she describes as the growing ease of infidelity in modern relationships, attributing it largely to the influence of social media and the changing dynamics of modern lifestyles.

In an interview with Saturday Beats, the actress noted that while cheating has always existed, digital connectivity has made it far more accessible and discreet.

“Yes, infidelity seems to be more common today, and I believe the major difference is exposure and accessibility,” she said. “Social media and modern lifestyles have made it easier for people to connect emotionally or physically outside their relationships. In the past, values and societal expectations were stronger, and privacy was more respected. However, I think the real issue lies in personal discipline and moral values, not the times we live in.”

Arike Gold emphasized that social media has blurred boundaries between friendship, flirtation, and emotional attachment, allowing people to maintain secret conversations and relationships that often lead to betrayal.

Beyond her acting career, the actress also runs an event planning business, which she described as a second passion that complements her life in entertainment.

“Acting gives me fulfilment, visibility, and a platform to express myself creatively, while event planning provides stability and allows me to build something tangible,” she said. “I don’t see myself quitting acting—it’s my first love—but I’ve learned to balance both industries effectively.”

Speaking on the evolution of Nollywood, Arike observed that social media has also changed how the industry operates, influencing both content and public perception.

“Social media has taken over, and many people now focus more on the media than the message itself,” she noted. “I wouldn’t say I want to change anything—I just prefer to adapt and follow the trend of today.”

Addressing the rising trend of women marrying older men, the actress said age should never be the defining factor in a relationship.

“What matters most are shared values, maturity, mutual respect, and emotional connection,” she said. “A younger man can be more responsible than an older one, and vice versa. Everyone’s journey to love and happiness is different, so it’s important to choose a partner who brings peace and understanding, not just material comfort.”

Through her reflections, Arike Gold underscores a growing truth about the digital age: while social media connects people globally, it also tests the strength, discipline, and boundaries of modern relationships.
