In a show of patriotism and glamour, hundreds of Ghanaian ladies and celebrities on Saturday took to social media to celebrate the country’s 64th independence celebration.
Using the hashtag ‘TheFlagTheFace’, several nationals, mostly ladies, of the former British colony splashed exquisite collection of personal selfies attached to the nation’s flag on the internet.
Its connotation, as Twitter user said, was to convey a message to the world that Ghana is blessed with beauty.
This is the first time the country has marked its Independence Day virtually as it is usually commemorated with parades all over the country.
The country’s leaders have also attributed to the modest celebration to the global outbreak and prevalence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ghana, formerly known as the Gold Coast, is considered one of the most stable nations in West Africa since it transited to multi-party democracy in 1992.
The country gained his independence from Britain rule in 1957, becoming the first sub-Saharan nation to break free from the strong hold of colonialists.
Celebrating his country, a Ghanaian footballer, Kingsley Fobi announced on Twitter, “Happy Independence Day to every Ghanaian. May peace continue to reign among us! God bless”.
On Instagram @nakeeyat wrote, “This is our motherland. Many languages and tribes, Different cultures, Different believes, And this makes our nation great and strong”.
