Popular skit maker and streamer, Carter Efe, has come under heavy public criticism following his public claims about the end of his relationship with his baby mama, Emmanuella, as counter allegations of abuse and control emerged online.
The controversy began after Carter Efe, whose real name is Oderhohwo Joseph Efe, announced on Instagram and X that he had been separated from Emmanuella for over a year.
He described the period as one of emotional pain, financial hardship and loss of creative direction, claiming the situation affected both his career and personal life.
Carter alleged that Emmanuella blocked him for five months and only reappeared after he gained popularity as a Twitch streamer through collaborations with international creators, including DDG.
In a series of Instagram Story posts, he accused her of frustrating his life and damaging his public image.
“This lady has frustrated my whole life to the extent I trend everyday for beating a lady,” he wrote.
“For good 2 years I lost everything, I lost my mindset, I cannot think or shoot content, I got broke. Good 3 months I didn’t see my kid! Charis. I never let that hold me down on my grind.”
He added, “These days you guys noticed I have been happy and active, it’s because I was able to move away since. I’m aggressively active. God is good.”
In another post, Carter accused her of opportunism, claiming she returned after his rise in the streaming space.
“You left me for good 5 months only to come and see that I’m the biggest streamer in Africa. You wan follow me enjoy when you no dey there for me,” he wrote.
Carter also shared details of his living conditions at the time, saying he and his team lived in a single room and were later chased out.
“This is where we sleep everyday, me and my team, in this one room. Hoping God will take control one day. Until we were chased out from there,” he said.
He further claimed his motivation was his daughter.
“I was intentional about grinding, not because of anybody, but for my kid Charis to have a brighter future. God never left my side when the people I love left me,” he added.
However, Carter’s version of events was challenged by influencer JoJo of Lele, who accused him of repeatedly abusing Emmanuella and forcing her out of their home on several occasions.
The situation escalated after activist and influencer VeryDarkMan shared videos of Emmanuella appearing emotionally distressed, with visibly swollen eyes.
Posting alongside the videos, VeryDarkMan wrote, “January 2025, one year ago. Carter Efe, do you remember this? It’s a good thing Carter Efe brought this up himself. God has given you an opportunity to free yourself.”
He added, “I called him a woman beater. I specifically said he beats his wife.”
Carter Efe has not directly responded to the videos or the abuse allegations.
Amid the backlash, Emmanuella broke her silence with a video posted on Instagram, disputing Carter’s claims and offering her own account of the relationship.
In the caption, she wrote, “Honestly I never knew there would be a day like this, sitting in front of camera to talk about my private life. Sadly this is my reality.”
She questioned the timing of Carter’s posts, stating that they were together just days earlier.
“The way he posted it was weird because we were literally together three days ago. We have a baby together and for you to cater for your child I will have to come to you before you can give me money even though we aren’t together anymore like you claim,” she said.
Emmanuella further accused Carter of limiting her personal and professional growth.
“You stopped me from working. I’ve always wanted to become an actress but Carter doesn’t want that. I had to kill that dream,” she said.
She added, “I can’t even work at the hospital because he said I would sleep with the doctors.”
She also alleged that Carter isolated her from friends and family.
“He blocked all my female friends because he knows I would confide in them. If people try to contact me he blocks it. He made sure I kept my family away,” she claimed.
Emmanuella further alleged intimidation before Carter made his posts.
“He called me this morning and told me he was about to post something calling me a prostitute and that he would make sure I don’t ever post myself again since he was the one that gave me the platform,” she said.
Media personality JoJo of Lele and other friends of Emmanuella have since shared what they described as receipts of alleged maltreatment, accusing Carter of chasing her out of the house and using blackmail to protect his image.
The allegations, counterclaims and circulating videos have continued to spark intense debate on social media, with Carter Efe yet to issue a direct response to Emmanuella’s latest statements.
