Six players from the Super Eagles have joined in celebrating the Super Falcons’ WAFCON win by giving them a cash gift of N24 million.
The players are William Troost-Ekong, Ola Aina, Ademola Lookman, Alex Iwobi, Leon Balogun, and Joe Aribo. They made the donation after the Super Falcons beat Morocco 3-2 in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday night.
The Falcons had fallen two goals behind before turning the game around in what many have called one of their greatest comebacks.
Saturday’s win marked the team’s 10th WAFCON title under head coach Justine Madugu.
The Falcons and their coaches returned to Nigeria on Monday, where they were welcomed with cheers. Their victory was also recognised by President Bola Tinubu, who gave each player the naira equivalent of \$100,000 and conferred them with national honours. The Nigeria Governors’ Forum also honoured the team.
The donation from the six Super Eagles stars is seen as a sign of support and unity between Nigeria’s male and female national teams.
