Six killed, 12 injured in Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway accidents
No fewer than six commuters have been reported dead while 12 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in Monday’s multiple accidents along Lagos – Abeokuta Expressway.
Daily Trust reports that the multiple crashes occurred at about 2:10PM at the Lala/Keke axis of the Lagos – Abeokuta old road.
The incident was confirmed by the Ogun Command Spokesperson of Federal Road Safety Corps, Florence Okpe, in Abeokuta on Monday.
The vehicles involved in the crashes were identified as a Mitsubishi Canter marked XS595JJJ, Mazda Bus E2000 with registration number LSR266YD and another Mazda E2000 Bus marked LND01YE.
Okpe blamed the causes of the multiple crashes on overspeeding, dangerous driving and loss of control due to wrong turning.
She further explained that the driver of the Mitsubishi Canter was navigating a turning without observing the road, while the driver of the Mazda bus lost control of the wheels, leading to a crash.
According to the FRSC spokesperson, a total number of 38 people were involved in the accident, out of which six died while 12 others sustained injuries.
As of the time of filing this report, the injured victims have been hospitalised in the state’s hospital in Abeokuta for medical attention, while the corpses have been deposited at the morgue of the facility.
