Six Kano almajiri returnees, four others test positive for COVID-19 in Bauchi

The Bauchi State Government has disclosed that it recorded 10 new cases of Covid-19 positive patients, six of which are almajiris repatriated from Kano.

The 10 new cases bring total confirmed coronavirus patients to 48.

According to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the four other cases had contact with an infected returnee from Abuja.

Six patients who tested negative twice were also discharged.

One almajiri returnee from Kano was confirmed positive for the disease on Friday.

The Executive Chairman, Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Rilwan Mohammed, on Friday, said the result was sent to him at about 9.00pm on Friday from the National Research for Veterinary Institute, Vom, Plateau State.

He said:

“We recorded 10 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Bauchi State. The results were sent to me from the National Research for Veterinary Institute, Vom, Plateau state at about 11.00pm today (Friday).

“This brings the total number of confirmed cases in the state to 48 with 42 of them active. Six have already been discharged after they tested negative. All our cases are returnees except our index case.

“Six more almajiri children that were returned from Kano state are among the results we got this night. They seven almajiris that are now positive out of the 38 brought in from Kano who are on isolation at the General Hassan Katsina Unity College, Yelwa.

“The son of a patient has also tested positive after having a close contact with his father who is isolation. His son and daughter are with him in isolation.”
