Six passengers have died in a crash involving two vehicles on the Lagos/Ibadan expressway near Verona, Ogere, in Ogun State.

The accident occurred on Friday and was confirmed by the Federal Roads Safety Corps Public Relations Officer, Florence Okpe, in a statement from Abeokuta, the state capital.

Florence Okpe explained that the crash involved a Toyota Sienna Space Bus and a moving truck. “The crash involved two vehicles with the following details: Ash Toyota Sienna with registration number EPE692EL and a truck that could not be identified as it was in motion when the crash happened and didn’t stop after the crash,” she said.

The accident, which left three others injured, was caused by excessive speed. The Sienna Space Bus reportedly rammed into the truck from the rear.

The injured victims were taken to Patmag Hospital in Ogere, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at FOS IPARA Morgue.

The Sector Commander of Ogun State FRSC, Akinwumi Fasakin, described the crash as avoidable. He stressed the importance of careful driving. “The crash was an avoidable act if proper caution was fully put in place by the driver. I urge motorists to ensure they give maximum concentration to driving as it is an act that requires such, and obey all traffic rules while driving on the highway,” he said.

He also extended his condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a quick recovery.
