Six individuals have tragically lost their lives, while 20 others sustained injuries in a series of road accidents across Ogun State on Monday.
According to a statement from Florence Okpe, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the incidents resulted in 26 people escaping without harm.
The first crash occurred at Fidiwo along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around 3:40 am, involving a Toyota bus and a Golf car. Okpe stated, “The suspected causes of the crash were wrongful overtaking, excessive speed, and making the vehicle lose control and crash.” Two lives were lost, and two individuals sustained injuries.
In another incident on the Ijebu-ode-Ore-Benin Expressway after Ajede junction, a Toyota bus carrying 20 passengers was involved in a crash. Seventeen people were injured, and three lost their lives due to speed and fatigue.
Similarly, along the Ijebu-Ode-Ore-Benin Expressway after the Ajebamidele Bridge, a luxury bus collided with a parked IVECO truck. This accident resulted in one fatality and two injuries.
Okpe highlighted the importance of cautious driving and adequate rest to prevent fatigue, echoing the advice of the Sector Commander, FRSC Ogun Sector Command, Anthony Uga.
