Six people were killed in an accident that involved a commercial bus and a truck at the Nkwelle Junction on the Nteje-Onitsha expressway in Anambra.
Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the accident to the Newsmen on Sunday in Awka.
He noted that the accident which occurred at about 5:10.p.m. was caused by excessive speeding which led the bus driver to lose control of his vehicle and rammed into the truck.
“The crash involved a mini white bus belonging to a transport firm (name withheld) with registration number BGT313 XA and a white truck which did not display its registration number.
“Out of the 17 persons involved in the crash, 11 male adults sustained some degree of injuries and were rushed to Iyi-Ene Hospital in Ogidi by FRSC rescue team from Nteje Unit Command.
He said the dead were deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.
While wishing the injured victims a quick recovery and condoling with the families of the dead, Kumapayi urged motorists to adhere strictly to speed limits in order to reduce avoidable road accidents during the “Ember months’’.
