Popular Afrobeat singer Oludipe David, better known as Spyro, delivered an exciting performance at the Labour Party rally in Edo State on Wednesday.
The rally was held ahead of the September 21 governorship election, with Olumide Akpata as the party’s flagbearer.
Spyro performed his hit song “Who is Your Guy,” which has become an anthem for Labour Party campaigns in Edo. Dressed in cream jeans and a grey shirt, topped with a red scarf representing the party’s colors, Spyro’s performance energized the crowd. He kept the audience on their feet with popular singles like “Billings” and “Shutdown,” featuring Davido.
Labour Party dignitaries, including 2023 LP candidate Peter Obi and his running mate Datti Baba-Ahmed, were present at the rally.
Before Spyro’s performance, Peter Obi addressed the crowd, expressing concern about the economic challenges in the country.
“You have seen our party leadership here; that means this is an election our party is fully supporting,” Peter Obi said. “Today, Labour Party is the only big party in Nigeria that, for the first time since Nigeria was created, has a woman as our national chairman. This has never happened before.”
He continued, “This is the first time there is a national chairman of a big party born after independence. So you see, it’s time to retire these people. We’ve taken enough from them. Olu Akpata is not just our guy, he is our governor.”
Olumide Akpata also spoke during the event, focusing his campaign on infrastructure development and social welfare.
He used the opportunity to connect with both fans and Labour Party supporters, rallying them ahead of the election.
