Singer Naira Marley offers to compose new national anthem
Controversial Afro pop singer, Azeez Adeshina Fashola known professionally as Naira Marley, on Wednesday volunteered to compose the new national anthem following unconfirmed report that the nation is planning to rebrand its name.
The social media was agog with reports that lawmakers have received a proposal from a tax consultant, Adeleye Jokotoye, to change Nigeria’s name to the United African Republic or United Alkebulan Republic.
Justifying his proposal, Jokotoye emphasised that Nigeria is a contraption made up of hundreds ethnic groups that need to be united.
He also noted that the House of Representatives could also choose United Alkebulan Republic (meaning: United Mother of Mankind Republic) as its new name.
Reacting to the development, Naira Marley disclosed that he wholeheartedly conceded to the idea, adding that there is a need to rebrand the country physically and psychologically to serve as a new beginning for the citizens.
The ‘Mafo’ crooner made the statement on his Twitter page.
Marley also volunteered to offer a free service to the new nation by helping to compose the new national anthem for the proposed UAR.
