Shiites vs Police: Nigerians mourn DCP Umar, Channels reporter, Precious Owolabi

Nigerians have mourned the death of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Usman A.K Umar, and Precious Owolabi, a National Youth Service Corp member working with the Channels Television.

DCP Umar and Owolabi were shot during the clash between the police and Shiite protesters in Abuja on Monday.

Sadly they died moments later while receiving treatment in a hospital in Abuja.

Social media personalities and well-meaning Nigerians have begun to pay condolence to the family of the deceased while calling on the Federal Government to profer solution to insecurity

The Inspector-General of Police in a statement also decried the incident and warned that “Enough is Enough.”

Meanwhile, the management and staff of Channels television said they were saddened by the untimely death of the promising journalist.

According to a statement by Channels TV, the 23-year-old died of a gunshot wound he sustained while covering the clash between the police and the Shiite protesters on Monday in Abuja.

The statement reads in part, “The management and staff of Channels Television are greatly saddened by the untimely and unfortunate death of such a promising journalist.

“We pray that God will grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, and avail his soul eternal rest.”

However, the Islamic Movement of Nigeria claimed that no fewer than six of its members were killed during the bloody protest over the continued detention of its leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky.
