Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Kwara State following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to carry out an on-the-spot assessment of the recent deadly attack in Woro, Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
According to a statement issued by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, the Vice President is conveying President Tinubu’s firm assurance that the Federal Government will pursue those behind the attack until they are identified, apprehended, and prosecuted.
The assault, which resulted in the loss of several lives, has sparked widespread condemnation across the country and renewed concerns over security in the affected area.
Shettima’s visit is part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to sympathise with affected communities, support victims, and strengthen coordination of security responses on the ground.
President Tinubu’s directive, the statement noted, reflects the administration’s resolve to ensure accountability for the attack and to prevent further violence in the state.
The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Tuesday, 3 February 2026, when armed attackers reportedly carried out a coordinated assault on Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
Residents have recounted that the assailants had earlier issued warnings or letters, claiming they intended to “preach” or compel villagers to renounce allegiance to the Nigerian state in favour of extremist interpretations of law, demands which the communities resisted.
