A prominent Islamic cleric and former governorship candidate, Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil, has pointed fingers at political figures Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje for the ongoing political turmoil in Kano State.

He accused both men of creating divisions that have hindered the state’s progress and unity.

During an interview with journalists, Sheikh Khalil, who also serves as the Chairman of the Kano Council of Ulama, expressed concern over the detrimental impact of their rivalry.

“There are only two individuals who are the problem of Kano today, and they are Kwankwaso and Ganduje,” he said.

He noted that their political feud has caused rifts not only among politicians but also within the religious community, eroding the cohesion once present in the state.

When asked to declare support for either of the two political figures, the cleric was direct in his response: “Neither of them is worthy of being followed.”

Sheikh Khalil, who ran for governor in 2023 under the Action Democratic Congress emphasized the need for new leadership that can unite the people and restore stability to the state.

His comments have since stirred significant discourse within both political and religious spheres in Kano, amplifying calls for a new wave of leadership.
