A 6.5-meter-tall bronze statue of Colombian singer Shakira has been unveiled in her hometown of Barranquilla.

The statue captures the iconic dance move featured in her popular music video “Hips Don’t Lie.”

Shakira shared her excitement on Instagram, posting photos of her parents standing proudly in front of the statue.

The unveiling ceremony took place on Tuesday and was attended by Shakira’s parents, William Mebarak and Nidia Ripoll, along with the mayor of Barranquilla.

The bronze statue showcases Shakira in a dynamic pose, emphasizing the distinctive hip-swaying move that has become synonymous with her performances.

A plaque positioned at the base of the statue recognizes Shakira for her “hips that do not lie, a unique talent, a voice that moves masses.”

It also acknowledges her charitable contributions through the “Pies descalzos” foundation, which focuses on early childhood development.

Expressing gratitude for the artistic tribute, Shakira thanked the sculptor, Yino Márquez, and his students for their “enormous artistic talent” in creating the bronze masterpiece.

The unveiling comes after a notable year for Shakira, during which she made headlines with the release of a song about her former partner, ex-footballer Gerard Piqué.

The song achieved record-breaking success on YouTube in Latin America. Additionally, Shakira resolved a tax fraud case in Spain by paying a €7.5 million fine.
