Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats sensation Burna Boy are set to perform the official song of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the tournament’s opening ceremony in Mexico City.
According to The Punch, the duo will perform *Dai Dai*, the tournament’s official anthem, at the Estadio Azteca on June 11 before the opening match between hosts Mexico and South Africa.
BBC Sport reported that FIFA described the song as a celebration of football’s ability to unite people across cultures and continents.
“*Dai Dai* is a celebration of football’s power to unite people across cultures and continents,” FIFA said in a statement.
The title, an Italian phrase meaning “let’s go” or “come on,” is expected to be a major highlight of the opening ceremony.
Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin and South African singer Tyla will also perform during the event.
“We wanted a song that captures the energy, passion and global spirit of the FIFA World Cup,” FIFA added. “Shakira and Burna Boy bring together two of the world’s most influential musical voices.”
The opening ceremony in Mexico will be one of three planned across the host nations. Canadian stars Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette will headline festivities in Toronto, while American artists Katy Perry and Future are scheduled to perform ahead of the United States’ opening match in Los Angeles.
Shakira’s appearance continues her long standing connection with the World Cup, having previously delivered global hits such as *Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)* and *La La La* for past editions of the tournament.
The singer is also expected to perform at the World Cup final on July 19 as part of the competition’s first ever Super Bowl style halftime show alongside Madonna and K-pop group BTS.
