Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has spoken out about the huge financial gap between female and male football, saying the rewards for women players are still far behind.
Ajibade, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain, shared her thoughts during an episode of the Leadership Podcast hosted by Stephen Akintayo.
“Female football is not as rewarding as male football. The financial reward is not even close,” she said. “To be honest, the narrative is changing compared to 10-12 years ago. Every year there is always an improvement which we appreciate, but the gap is still really wide from male football.”
She explained that the low earnings in women’s football come from lack of awareness and sponsorship.
Ajibade called for more support, saying increased sponsorship and promotion would help grow the women’s game and give players better opportunities.
