A severe windstorm struck three Local Government Areas in Zamfara State on Monday, causing extensive damage to buildings.

The National Emergency Management Agency in a statement issued on its X page, on Thursday said that the affected LGAs include Tsafe, Maradun, and Mafara.

The windstorm affected several communities, leading to the collapse of numerous buildings.

Due to the high level of insecurity in the region, security operatives were deployed to assist NEMA teams during the assessment of the damage.

The statement reads “Following a windstorm that occurred sporadically across different Local Government Areas of Zamfara State on June 3, 2024, NEMA, alongside the Zamfara State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency, conducted a joint assessment of the affected areas.

“The windstorm affected communities in Tsafe, Maradun, and Mafara LGAs, among others, causing buildings to collapse. The assessment was conducted with a heavy presence of security operatives due to the ongoing security challenges.”
