Seven people have been killed and two others injured following a multiple-vehicle crash around Kara on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. The incident happened in the early hours of Monday.
According to The Punch, the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State said three vehicles were involved in the accident. It occurred shortly after midnight.
Nine men involved in crash
The vehicles involved were a HOWO CNG truck, a MACK trailer and a Mitsubishi Canter.
The FRSC said all nine people involved were male, with seven confirmed dead and two sustaining injuries.
Its Ibafo Outpost Command received information about the accident at about 12:04am. The officers arrived at the scene roughly five minutes later.
Preliminary findings identified excessive speed as the probable cause, although investigations are continuing.
FRSC warns motorists over speeding
The injured victims were taken for medical treatment. Meanwhile, the bodies of those who died were evacuated by the Ogun State Ambulance Service.
The damaged vehicles were later handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Nigeria Police Force in Ibafo.
Ogun FRSC Sector Commander Oludare Ogunjobi urged drivers, particularly operators of articulated vehicles, to reduce speed. He also advised them to maintain safe distances from other vehicles.
He also warned motorists to exercise greater caution during night journeys because poor visibility and fatigue can increase accident risks.
