Seven injured as two trucks collide in Oyo

Seven people have been hospitalised after two trucks collided and caught fire in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.

The accident happened on Monday at Arinkinkin, Agric area of the city when a truck loaded with grains rammed into another carrying unidentified chemicals.

The crash triggered a fire that spread quickly, causing panic among residents before firefighters arrived.

Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, Maroof Akinwande, confirmed the incident in a statement on Tuesday.

“The fire incident was reported at exactly 13:15hrs on Monday 15th September, 2025. The fire personnel led by CFM Oladejo Kola swiftly responded and deployed to the scene of the fire incident. Upon arrival, it was two trucks, one loaded with grains (maize) and the other with unidentified chemicals collided with each other, engulfed by fire,” he said.

He added that fire officers were able to stop the blaze from consuming both vehicles. “The fire was completely extinguished and there was only one with chemical affected by fire while the second truck was saved by the fire service,” Akinwande explained.

The Oyo fire chief further confirmed that seven men were rescued alive and taken for medical treatment. “Seven male persons were rescued alive with minor injuries and taken to Bowen Teaching Hospital by Officers of Federal Road Safety Corps Ogbomoso Division for medical attention,” he said.

Akinwande assured that the situation had been brought under control. “Vehicular movement has been restored back to the road and normal daily activities are in progress in the area,” he noted.

The victims are currently receiving treatment at Bowen Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso.
