Service Chief: Lai Mohammed slams ‘unpatriotic Nigerians’ demanding probe

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has his back at those calling for the probe of the recently-retired service chiefs.

Recall that Nigerians have been clamouring for the probe of the outgone Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok Ekwe Ibas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, since their retirement was announced a week ago.

Announcing their replacements, The President Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) named Major-General Leo Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General I. Attahiru, Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral A.Z Gambo, Chief of Naval Staff; and Air-Vice Marshal I.O Amao, Chief of Air Staff.

Although some have commented the president for his actions, it was quickly followed up with calls for a probe by the government and the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the increased insecurity in the country, amongst others.
Responding, Mohammed who was quoted by Daily Post in a recent radio interview, labelled the citizens calling for the probe of the ex-service chiefs, including the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),  as unpatriotic Nigerians.

According to Mohammed, there will be no probing of the retired service chiefs.

“To the best of my knowledge, our service chiefs obey the rules of engagement and where there are infractions, there are internal regulations and internal mechanisms to address them.

Those who are calling for the ex-service chiefs to be invited to ICC are unpatriotic people.

Those who talk about the structure, what do they know about the structure of the military? I don’t think any of us is competent to talk about the structure of the military”
