Former governorship hopeful of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ebonyi State, Senator (Dr) Offia Nwali is dead.
His death was announced by his daughter-in-law, Oguzorkanu Maryjane Okwuru in a post on Facebook.

Nwali was a community leader and researcher from Ebonyi State. He was the chief of Ameka, a small town in the state.
He was educated at Brown University and Harvard (Phd, 1966). He worked with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research before returning to Nigeria after the civil war.
He worked with the East Central Data Processing Center and was later elected a senator of the Nigerian republic in 1979.
He defeated his closest opponent S.O. Megada by about 80, 000 votes to win the Anambra East senatorial constituency.
He lost family members in an airplane crash in the early 1980s.
