Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has rejected a new office given to him by the Senate Services Committee.

The office, located on the third floor of the Senate New Building, was deemed by Ndume as unsuitable for his status as one of the highest-ranking members in the 10th Senate.

In a letter addressed to Senator Sunday Karimi, chairman of the Senate Services Committee, Ndume stated that the office allocation did not meet his expectations.

The letter, dated July 30, 2024, was signed by Ndume’s Chief Confidential Secretary, Yati Shuaibu Gawu.

The letter reads, “I am directed to inform you that Distinguished Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has rejected the allocation of office number 3.10 by the Committee. This is because offices are traditionally allocated on a seniority basis. Sen. Ndume is the most Senior Senator after Sen. Ahmad Lawan and will only occupy an office on the fourth floor.”

Ndume’s rejection of the new office comes after he was recently removed from his role as the Senate Majority Whip by the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party considered his comments in a media interview as harmful to its image and the current administration. Additionally, Senate President Godswill Akpabio removed Ndume from his vice chairmanship of the Senate Committee on Appropriation.

Despite being offered a new position as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Tourism, Ndume has also rejected this appointment.
