The Nigerian Senate has announced plans to screen Dr. Bernard Mohammed Doro for ministerial appointment following a formal nomination by President Bola Tinubu.
During plenary on Wednesday, October 22, Senate President Godswill Akpabio disclosed that the President had submitted a letter to the upper chamber, seeking the confirmation of Doro as a Minister of the Federal Republic.
While reading the letter on the Senate floor, Akpabio stated that President Tinubu assured lawmakers that the nomination was made in accordance with Section 147(2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
The President’s letter read: “In compliance with the provisions of section 147(2) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, I am pleased to forward to the Senate the nomination of Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro for confirmation as Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“While I hope that this request will receive the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate, please accept, distinguished Senate President and distinguished senators, the assurances of my highest regards,” the letter concluded.
Following the reading of the letter, the Senate President directed that the nomination be referred to the Committee of the Whole for further consideration.
Dr. Doro, a native of Plateau State, was nominated to fill the ministerial vacancy created by the exit of Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, who formerly served as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction. Yilwatda resigned from the cabinet after his emergence as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July 2025.
Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga had earlier confirmed the nomination in a statement issued on Tuesday, October 21, noting that Doro’s appointment remains subject to Senate confirmation.
