The Senate has passed the Orthopaedic Hospital Amendment Bill 2025, which seeks to amend the law governing the country’s specialised hospitals for bone and muscle-related health issues.

The bill was approved during a plenary session on Wednesday after lawmakers considered a report presented by Senator Osita Ngwu (PDP-Enugu) on behalf of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Senator Ipalibo Banigo.

The bill, which was sponsored by Senator Shehu Buba, aims to amend the Orthopaedic Hospitals Management Board Act and create a new orthopaedic hospital in Toro, Bauchi State.

Speaking on the importance of the bill, Senator Banigo said it would help provide better treatment for people suffering from fractures, musculoskeletal conditions, and other related diseases.

“This bill will ensure that more Nigerians get access to specialised orthopaedic care. Many people struggle with these conditions without adequate medical attention,” she said.

The bill had already gone through a third reading last month before its final approval. The establishment of the new hospital is expected to improve healthcare services in the North-East region.
