The Nigerian Senate has approved a refund of over N25 billion to Kebbi and Nasarawa States construction of two airport projects done on behalf of the Federal Government.

The approval, made on Tuesday, grants N15.1 billion to Kebbi State for work on the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin-Kebbi, and N9.5 billion to Nasarawa State for the Lafia Cargo Airport.

This decision followed the Senate’s review and adoption of a report by the Committee on Local and Foreign Debts, titled “Promissory note programme for the refund to Kebbi State and Nasarawa State Government on the newly constructed airport projects executed on behalf of the Federal Government.”

The report was presented by Senator Haruna Manu, the committee’s vice-chairman.

The Senate committee found that both states had completed the airport projects in line with contract requirements and that the work would last long term.

The committee stated, “Inspection visits by the Federal Ministry of Aviation confirmed that the quality of work met the required standard.”

They also noted that all contractors involved had been fully paid by the state governments.
