The Senate has confirmed Nnanna Uzor-Kalu as a member of the National Assembly Service Commission.
He is the younger brother of former Abia State Governor and senator, Orji Uzor-Kalu.
Kalu, who previously served two terms in the House of Representatives, was initially not confirmed due to a petition against him. However, on Thursday, the Senate Ethics Committee submitted its report, clearing him for the position.
His confirmation brings the total number of cleared nominees to 12. Others confirmed include Dr. Saviour Enyiekere (South-South), Suleiman Hunkuyi (North-West), Yusuf Yusuf (North-West), Aminu Malle (North-East), and Alhaji Mahmud (North-East).
Also on the list are Mark Terso (North-Central), Salihu Balogun (North-Central), Taiwo Oluga (South-West), Afeez Ipesa-Balogun (South-West), Festus Odii (South-East), Patrick Giwa (South-South), and Mrs. Mary Ekpeyong (South-South).
During the plenary, Senator Cyril Fasuyi, Chairman of the Senate Ethics Committee, assured lawmakers that all nominees were qualified and suitable for the commission.
“The committee has thoroughly reviewed the credentials and records of the nominees and is satisfied with their qualifications and experience,” Fasuyi said.
Despite the initial delay, Kalu’s confirmation was eventually approved, clearing the way for him to take up his new role.
