A suspected cable thief who attempted to steal electricity wires connected to the Shiroro/Tegina/Kontagora 132 KV transmission line has met more than he bargained for as he got electrocuted in the process.
According to a statement released on Friday by the Transmission Company of Nigeria, signed by its General Manager, Public Affairs, Seun Olagunju, the incident happened on the night of August 1, 2016 while the suspected vandal was “carrying out the nefarious act” on the power line.
It added that the vandal had successfully cut the skywire at Tower 187 and proceeded to Tower 188 along the transmission line when he was electrocuted.
The TCN said the police was consequently invited to the scene of the incident and the corpse was removed.
It was gathered that the cut skywire was also removed and the line restored at about 6:40pm on August 2.
WuzupNaija learnt that investigations were still ongoing on the matter.
Meanwhile, the TCN has warned vandals to steer clear of transmission equipment across the country.
It said apart from being an act of sabotage, “there is grave danger inherent in vandalism of power installations”.
The statement said, “TCN management, therefore, appeals to the public to be vigilant and report questionable and illegal activities around power installations and equipment to law enforcement agents.
“This will ensure effective power wheeling for national development, which the TCN is continually committed to.”
