The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old security guard for allegedly stealing household items worth N1.8 million from an apartment in the Ifako area of Lagos.
Police spokesperson CSP Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed the arrest in a statement on Saturday. He said officers from the Iju Police Division acted after a resident reported that his home had been burgled on August 15.
“Stolen items included a Sumec generator, a Fireman generator, a National air conditioner, and three air conditioner compressor engines, all valued at N1.8 million,” Hundeyin said.
According to him, detectives tracked down the suspect in the same neighbourhood after investigations revealed he worked with other accomplices who are still on the run.
Hundeyin added that the stolen items had been recovered, and efforts were ongoing to arrest the remaining suspects.
“The case will be charged to court upon completion of investigations,” he said.
The Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, assured residents that the command would continue to bring offenders to justice. He also advised employers to carry out proper background checks before hiring workers.
