A Security Guard, Mubarat Ahmed, on Monday, appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing 100 litres of diesel, worth N48,000.

Ahmed, 25, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a count charge of stealing.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, ASP Kenneth Asibor, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Jan. 21, at an MTN mast located at No. 25/27, Olu Adegbite St., Idimu, Lagos.

”The defendant was a security guard at the MTN mask, but without the consent of his employer, MTN, he stole 100 litres of diesel, worth N48, 000,” he said.

Asibor said the diesel was stored inside some 25-litre kegs.

”The defendant stole four of the kegs, valued at N12,000 each,” the prosecutor further told the court.

According to Asibo, the offence contravenes Section 280(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr E. O. Ogunkanmi, however, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State government.

The magistrate, thereafter, adjourned the case till Feb. 22, for mention.
