A security guard, La’azarus Yawuche, was on Friday arraigned before a Life Camp Chief Magistrates’ Court in Abuja over the alleged theft of a generator and armoured cables valued at N2.7 million.

Yawuche, 41, is facing a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, theft and negligent conduct.

He pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The prosecutor, Charity Nwachukwu, told the court that the complainant, Mrs Adaugo Asikaugu of Ubiaja Crescent, Garki, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on January 12.

Nwachukwu said the defendant allegedly conspired with other persons still at large to gain access to the complainant’s residence, where they reportedly stole a power generator and 33 metres of armoured cable valued at N2.7 million.

She further informed the court that during police investigations, the defendant made a confessional statement but was unable to give a satisfactory explanation regarding the whereabouts of the stolen items.

The prosecutor said the alleged offences contravened Sections 97, 289 and 196 of the Penal Code.

Ruling on the bail application, the Chief Magistrate, Musa Jobbo, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate directed that the sureties must be residents within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until March 26 for hearing.
