A 37-year-old private security guard, Nuradeen Shehu took his own life inside a school classroom in Kano on Sunday.
It is believed that his ex-wife’s remarriage was the reason behind his drastic action.
The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mohammad Usaini Gumel, addressed the press in Kano on Tuesday and provided details about the incident.
Shehu, a security guard working at a private school in the Gwale local government area of Kano state, was found hanging in one of the classrooms where he worked.
Gumel expressed his condolences and informed the public that the command has launched a thorough investigation into the matter.
According to Gumel, the incident was reported on Tuesday by Abdullahi Abdulsalam of Rijiyar Zaki. Abdulsalam informed the police that Shehu was found motionless after hanging himself with a rope in a classroom on January 28 at around 10:30 am.
Upon receiving the report, a team of policemen from Gwale Division, led by the DPO, was immediately dispatched to the scene.
They forcefully unlocked the door, cut the rope, and rushed Shehu’s body to Murtala Mohammed General Hospital. Unfortunately, a medical doctor confirmed his death.
The police have released the deceased’s body to his family for burial.
Preliminary information suggests that Shehu may have taken his own life upon learning about his ex-wife’s remarriage.
