An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, has arraigned two men for allegedly stealing and receiving gold jewelry worth N11 million from a woman.

The accused are Richard Nwachukwu, 31, a former security guard, and Abdullahi Anefi, 30, a jewelry seller.

The prosecutor, Insp Bassey Sunday, said that Nwachukwu was employed by the victim, Mrs Rosanna Eso, through a security company in 2022.

He said that Nwachukwu conspired with the victim’s grandson to break into her safe and take her gold jewelry, which included earrings, bangles, rings, necklaces and pendants.

Some days after he (Nwachukwu) had left, she discovered that her safe was already damaged and that some of her gold jewelry worth millions of naira was gone.

”Some of the missing items include gold earrings, bangles, rings and necklaces worth N8,500,000 and some pendants worth N2,500,000.

”She asked her 17-year-old grandson living with her about the missing items and he claimed it was Nwachukwu, the security guard, who instructed him to bring the gold jewelry for him,” Sunday told the court.

He said that the offences violated Sections 287(7), 328 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Sunday also cited Section 328 which prescribes 14 years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of receiving stolen property.
