Security operatives have begun a rescue operation for Lieutenant Cynthia Akor, a Nigerian Navy officer attached to the Defence Headquarters, and two other individuals abducted in the Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory.
The victims were kidnapped from their residence on Friday night by gunmen who later contacted their families, demanding a ransom of N100 million for their release.
A security source confirmed on Saturday that police officers and military personnel had commenced a coordinated operation to rescue the hostages.
“The operation to rescue her and others has started and is ongoing. Police and soldiers are already on it,” the source said.
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, and the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, were unsuccessful, as they had yet to respond to inquiries at the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, stated that she would verify the incident and provide further details.
However, as of the time of filing this report, no further updates had been provided.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant while security agencies intensify efforts to track down the kidnappers and secure the release of the victims.
