The United States Secret Service has launched scrutiny of an Iranian state television broadcast. This broadcast discussed a potential Barron Trump threat, targeting President Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump.
According to Reuters, the agency confirmed on Tuesday that it was aware of the video. It also treats anything that could be perceived as a Barron Trump threat or other threat against people under its protection seriously.
Secret Service confirms awareness
Secret Service spokesperson Nate Herring said the agency was reviewing the matter but declined to provide operational details.
“The U.S. Secret Service is aware of the video and investigates anything that can be perceived as a threat toward our protectees,” he said. In this case, that includes the latest Barron Trump threat.
Herring added that the agency would not discuss protective intelligence because of security considerations.
The three-minute broadcast on Iranian state television reportedly discussed a possible plot against the 20-year-old. It also claimed he was being monitored. Furthermore, the Barron Trump threat has led to increased public and media attention.
Video reportedly mentions $10m bounty
The broadcast also alleged that a $10 million bounty had been offered for Barron’s killing.
There has been no independent confirmation that such a bounty exists or that any operational plot has been uncovered.
The development comes amid heightened hostility between Washington and Tehran. This situation continues as the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran approaches six months.
Trump has previously spoken publicly about threats allegedly directed at him by Iran.
US-Iran tensions remain high
American officials have also expressed concern over previous intelligence indicating potential Iranian plots against senior US figures.
The latest broadcast has now widened attention to the President’s family, prompting the Secret Service to acknowledge the threat publicly.
Officials have not disclosed whether security arrangements surrounding Barron have been changed following the video.
The investigation comes as Washington continues increasing diplomatic and economic pressure on Tehran, while both countries exchange increasingly hostile rhetoric.
