The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party, Adewole Adebayo, has officially announced his intention to contest again in the 2027 presidential election under the party’s banner.
Adebayo made the declaration on Wednesday during an interview with Channels Television, stating clearly that he would be vying for the party’s ticket ahead of the next general elections.
He expressed confidence in the party’s internal democratic process, noting that he is not concerned about the influx of new politicians or potential defections disrupting his chances.
According to Adebayo, the SDP will select its candidate based on merit through the party’s primaries.
The former presidential candidate further dismissed any claims that the SDP could be used as a platform for short-term political ambitions in the lead-up to 2027.
He also addressed rumors of political alignments, particularly involving former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
“Everyone is welcome to join us, I have no anxiety regarding what will happen in the next convention, I intend to run and I believe our party will choose the best of whoever contests at that time but our party cannot be used as a vehicle for anyone’s short-term ambition, neither I or El-Rufai are not representing the SDP in any coalition,” he stated.
