The Social Democratic Party has constituted a three-member White Paper Committee to review the findings of its Disciplinary Committee, which investigated National Chairman Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam and two others over alleged misconduct.
The committee, led by retired Air Vice Marshal Abubakar-Sadick Liman, was inaugurated on July 4, 2025, by the party’s National Working Committee.
It has been tasked with examining possible violations of the party’s 2022 amended constitution and assessing the circumstances around the submission of audited financial reports to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
According to the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Ayenigba, the outcome of the review will be presented at an enlarged Stakeholders Meeting scheduled for this week, where a final resolution on the matter will be determined.
“We are taking every appropriate step according to the Constitution of our Party and the law to address the issues at stake.
“We have set a three-man panel to look into the reports of the probe panel, and we will now take the enlarged Stakeholders meeting of the Party coming during the week,” Ayenigba said.
The committee chairman noted that despite a lack of cooperation from most of the individuals under investigation, the panel was able to gather substantial evidence to draw clear conclusions.
“The committee received useful statements from members of the NWC, contractors, and the external auditor,” he said. “Only the suspended National Auditor among the accused honored the invitation. Nonetheless, we secured sufficient information to make findings and far-reaching recommendations.”
He added that the committee’s recommendations, if fully adopted, could transform the party’s leadership structure and demonstrate the SDP’s dedication to ethical governance.
“We believe this report is not just for the upliftment of the SDP, but for the renewal of public confidence in political leadership in Nigeria,” he said.
Acting National Chairman of the party, Dr. Sadiq Abubakar Gombe, gave assurances that the leadership would consider the report carefully and act in the best interest of both the party and the country.
“The problem facing the nation is corruption,” he added.
