Scripture doesn’t forbid tattoo – Pastor Okonkwo

The founder of David’s Christian Centre, Lagos, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has again responded to the backlash trailing his recent tattoo, maintaining that the Christian faith provides no biblical grounds for condemning tattoos.

Addressing sustained criticism from segments of the public and the Christian community, the cleric said resistance to tattoos is largely driven by personal opinions, denominational rules, or long-held traditions rather than clear scriptural teaching.

“There’s no scripture that says a child of God cannot have tattoo,” Pastor Okonkwo said. He challenged those criticizing him to examine the source of their judgments, questioning whether such views were based on personal beliefs, church regulations, or what he mockingly described as “what the holy Spotify told them.”
He argued that many individuals attempt to enforce their own standards on others, a tendency he said runs contrary to the essence of Christianity.

“They want to impose it on other people and that’s not how this works. Everyone needs to know Christ to walk the word of God,” he stated.

The pastor further called on critics to clearly justify their stance, asking them to provide tangible reasons why tattoos should be viewed as sinful or damaging.

“Somebody needs to sit me down and tell me tattoos are bad because if someone draws ink on their body, their brain goes bad, or their character goes bad,” he said.

Okonkwo stressed that objections to tattoos should be supported by verifiable scriptural references or scientific facts.

“They must give me either scriptural proof or scientific proof or something to back this thought up,” he added, noting that despite strong opposition, many critics struggle to clearly explain why tattoos are inherently wrong.
