Four people, including schoolchildren, were killed on Wednesday afternoon in a road accident at Sowo Village along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway in Ogun State.
The accident happened around 3 pm while some pupils were walking home from school. Witnesses said a speeding vehicle ran into them on the roadside.
The crash sparked a protest from angry villagers, who blocked the road to express their anger and frustration.
Spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident.
“A tragic accident occurred at Sowo Village, claiming four lives, including schoolchildren. The road was blocked, and police were called to the scene,” he said.
He added that officers from TRACE, the Nigerian Police, and the Army later cleared the road, and traffic has now started moving again.
