The Abia State Universal Basic Education Board has stopped its plan to hire security men for all primary and junior secondary schools in the state.

The decision comes just one week after the board announced that it would employ guards aged between 20 and 65 years to protect school children and prevent vandalism and encroachment in schools.

In a statement released on Friday in Umuahia, Board Secretary Dr Uzomaka Amah-Mbah said the suspension was due to technical and administrative adjustments.

“The recruitment exercise has been temporarily put on hold due to technical and administrative adjustments,” the statement read.

It was signed on behalf of the Executive Chairman of the board and also included an apology to applicants and stakeholders.

“We apologise to all the applicants and other stakeholders for the inconvenience the suspension has caused them,” Amah-Mbah added.

The board said an updated guideline for the exercise would be communicated when the adjustments are completed but gave no new date for the recruitment.
