There was a scary moment for Beyoncé and her fans in Houston after a technical problem caused her flying car stage prop to tilt while she was performing mid-air.
The singer was performing “16 Carriages” at the NRG Stadium on Saturday night during her Cowboy Carter tour when the car suddenly stopped and tilted above the crowd.
Videos from fans showed Beyoncé gripping tightly to a cable and calmly saying, “Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop. Stop,” before the music was cut. She added, “Thank you for your patience,” as the crew slowly lowered her back to the stage.
Once safely back on the ground, Beyoncé finished her performance and reassured the crowd. “I wanna thank y’all for loving me,” she said. “If ever I fall, I know y’all will catch me.” Her words drew loud cheers from the audience.
Later that night, Beyoncé’s company, Parkwood Entertainment, confirmed the incident in a statement shared on Instagram. “Tonight in Houston, at NRG stadium, a technical mishap caused the flying car, a prop Beyoncé uses to circle the stadium, and see her fans up close, to tilt. She was quickly lowered and no one was injured. The show continued without incident.”
Beyoncé also posted photos from the show, including one showing the moment the car tilted, and captioned it, “I love you, Houston.”
The Cowboy Carter tour began in April and has already travelled through Los Angeles and France. After Houston, the tour will head to Maryland and Georgia before ending in Nevada in July.
