Saudi Arabia has announced that Eid-el-Adha, also known as Sallah, will be celebrated on Friday, June 6, 2025.

The announcement followed the sighting of the crescent moon, which marks the beginning of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar. According to a post shared by Haramain Sharifain on Tuesday via X (formerly Twitter), Dhul Hijjah 1446 will begin on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

The post also listed the important dates for the Islamic observance:

The first day of Dhul Hijjah is Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
The Day of Arafah is Thursday, June 5, 2025.
Eid-el-Adha (Sallah Day) is Friday, June 6, 2025.

The Day of Arafah, which comes a day before Sallah, is one of the most important days in Islam. It is the day when millions of Muslim pilgrims gather at Mount Arafat during the Hajj pilgrimage to seek mercy and forgiveness from Allah.

Eid-el-Adha, also called the Festival of Sacrifice, is celebrated by Muslims around the world to honour Prophet Ibrahim’s obedience to Allah when he was willing to sacrifice his son.

As part of the announcement, Haramain Sharifain also shared a well-known prayer recited by pilgrims:
Labbayk Allahumma Labbayk, Labbayk la sharika laka Labbayk. Innal Hamda, Wannimata, Laka Wal-Mulk, La Sharika Lak.
(This means: “Here I am, O Allah, here I am. You have no partner. All praise, grace, and power belong to You alone.”)

Last year, Sallah was observed on June 16, 2024. With this year’s celebration now set for June 6, Muslims across Nigeria and other countries can begin preparing for the special day, which involves prayers, giving to the poor, and the slaughtering of rams and cows as a symbol of faith and sacrifice.
