The Saudi Royal Court has announced that Saturday, March 1, 2025, will mark the first day of Ramadan 1446H, following the successful sighting of the crescent moon.
According to Saudi Gazette, the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia confirmed that the moon was sighted on Friday, February 28, which corresponds to the 29th of Sha’aban 1446H. This officially signals the start of the holy month of fasting for Muslims.
Meanwhile, in Nigeria, the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, has instructed Nigerian Muslims to observe the moon sighting as well.
The Sultan is expected to address the nation in a broadcast later tonight with updates from the national moon sighting committee.
Ramadan is a significant period for Muslims worldwide, marked by fasting from dawn to dusk, prayers, and acts of charity. The holy month lasts for 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the next crescent moon.
Muslims in both Saudi Arabia and Nigeria are now preparing to begin their fasting and spiritual activities starting this weekend.
