Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Thursday that his administration is taking steps to alleviate the impact of the rising cost of living by reducing the working days for civil servants.

“We want to start with our public servants; immediately from next week, Civil servants from the lower level will be working like three times a week, and level 15-17 can work four times in a week,” said Governor Sanwo-Olu during the ongoing media parley on economic hardship.

Addressing the surging cost of food, he further revealed plans to open Sunday Markets in 42 identified markets across Lagos State. These markets will offer discounted rates on food items, limiting purchases to items worth up to N25,000.

Additionally, the governor announced a 25% reduction in transport services starting this weekend for the State Public Transport system, which includes BRT, Train, and Ferry. Sanwo-Olu stated that discussions are ongoing with various transport unions to persuade them to reduce their fares.

“First is to express empathy with our citizens. We are not unmindful of the situation. As leaders, we must be able to solve socioeconomic problems,” Sanwo-Olu emphasized during the media parley.
